Notes augmented

We've enhanced and de-bugged Notes. If you haven't tried it yet, now's the time! You can create a private note when you ban multiple users. You can also delete multiple notes at once. Lastly, paid users have the option to add a note (visible only to you) whenever you add or remove a friend (guaranteed to avoid embarrassing social mishaps). If you don't currently have a paid account, you can upgrade now! It only takes a few minutes and costs less than a bad shopping mall haircut (plus, it's way more fashionable)!

Product tweaks and bug kill

  1. In another effort to zap spam, comments containing links from domains LiveJournal deems untrustworthy are now automatically screened
  2. If you sign up to get notifications of the Writer's Block question of the day, you'll now see the daily question in the email notification, so you'll have a little extra time to ponder before you post. You can subscribe to Writers Block notifications here
  3. The issue causing random comments to vanish has been fixed!
  4. If you visit a LiveJournal page and get prompted to log in, you'll be returned to the same page after you sign in (Thanks, Dreamwidth)!
  5. If you don't edit the timestamp for an entry at all, the entry timestamp will indicate the time the entry was posted instead of the time the Update Journal page was loaded
  6. Comments with paddings/backgrounds render correctly within the comment box (and will no longer wrap outside the box and break frames/margins)

New FCK fixes rich text editor!

  1. We've updated our RTE (Rich Text Editor) to FCKeditor version 2.6.5
  2. When switching from the RTE to HTML editor, links for syndicated feeds are no longer broken
  3. RTE now functions properly in Safari 4.0
  4. An extra line/space will not be auto-inserted whenever you switch from RTE to HTML editor
  5. The insert image link now works correctly in all browsers

LiveJournal Cares

We’re pleased to introduce you to [info]lj_cares, a new LiveJournal community dedicated to raising awareness and funds for U.S. charitable organizations that improve the health and well-being of people around the world. Each month, we’ll spotlight a nonprofit that is making a significant global impact through medical research, public outreach, and/or humanitarian social programs. Charities will be selected in accordance with the U.S. calendar of national health observances based on a high rating (of over 60%) on Charity Navigator and global scope of impact.

In this, our inaugural month of November, we will celebrate national adoption month by offering a charitable virtual gift (priced at $2.99) to support Love Without Boundaries, an organization that saves the lives of orphans with life-threatening diseases and places them in loving homes around the world. LiveJournal will donate 100% of the proceeds from the sale of charitable vgifts (we'll cover the cost of credit card transaction fees). To learn more about Love Without Boundaries, please visit [info]lj_cares and read about how they helped save Baby Kang and the Rainbow Twins from fatal illnesses, who are now thriving in nurturing families. You can purchase your Love Without Boundaries gifts in the Virtual Gift shop.

We're thrilled with our improved decor.

Please keep the love coming for one more week by writing to Frank the Goat, Esq., c/o LiveJournal, Inc., 539 Bryant Street, Suite 210, San Francisco, CA 94107. Be sure to include your username, since we'll be drawing the names of ten random contributors next Thursday to win paid account credits!

I still haven't gotten my computer, with all my Beatles pics, fixed yet. I don't know if any of my files are still okay, actually, but I have hope. So here's a spam I conjured up on this temporary computer I'm on.

I haven't been sticking to my schedule. Today, I started working on my laptop and while its still not fixed (it took almost 3 hours to transfer everything onto my new external hard drive that I spent $80 on last night. Yeah.... EIGHTY DOLLARS!) and so I have to go to work before I can get it done...

I've been watching Queer as Folk on my laptop while it loaded everything onto the hard drive and I'm up to Episode 7 in Season 1 of the UK version of the show. I am sad, though... IMDB informs me that there are only 2 seasons of the UK version of the show. And I am loving it and can't get enough! So I don't want to go through them TOO fast, you know? But when I get through the UK ones, I can move on to the US version, even though it doesn't seem as good as the UK one, it has 5 seasons to occupy me.

But I also have an episode of Nip/Tuck to catch up on... not to mention Glee! AND Ghost Hunters Academy has started this week (I'm not THAT excited about that show, though, so it can definitely wait until I'm bored one weekend with absolutely NOTHING else to do, and I mean NOTHING, lol). Not to mention the fact that I am smack dab in the middle of Season Three of Dexter, so close to being caught up!

BUT I CAN'T STOP WATCHING QUEER AS FOLK. It is seriously my new addiction. And I love Youtube for having what appears to be the entire show up! I've got to Episode Seven with no problems, so let's hope that the rest of Season 1 and then Season 2 are up without a hitch! *crosses fingers*

And Lennox, if you read this, you are SO RIGHT. And I'll tell you in person tonight probably... NATHAN AND STUART ARE TOTALLY OUR JOHN AND GEORGE. <3333 I think that's why I love the show so much. It reminds me a lot of our RP. Plus the show is spectacular.

SPOILER ALERT (I'm sure no one is as lame as me and catching on to a show TEN YEARS TOO LATE, but JUST IN CASE I'm putting the Spoiler Alert, lol)

When Stuart took Nathan home in Episode Six and he was like, telling him to go back to his family and Nathan was like, "If I do will you shag me again?" and then Stuart was just like, "Good luck." And he leaned over and kissed him, was the hottest thing ever. But then Nathan's dad had to interrupt and I sort of felt sorry for the dad, all he sees is a 15 year old boy being 'taken advantage' of by an older (almost 30 year old) homosexual man.... but he rammed his car into Stuart's jeep, demolishing it! And then he tried to beat up Stuart! And Stuart was going to drive off, and I totally thought he really was, but then he turned around and went back for Nathan. <3333 I was clapping and cheering and was so happy.

Reminded me of how John in our RP is always so ashamed and embarassed in front of their friends and stuff about him and George, and George is all young and naive and virgin-like and, g'ahh. I just love it so fucking much.

Alright, I'm done rambling, I apologize for the useless rambling...

Better go shower and get to hell. Er, I mean... work. SAME BLOODY THING IN MY EYES!

O_O; lol. I just sat outside in a "hurricane" to eat lunch. hahaha.

BUT! I had an explanation! Really, I did! There were no seats inside the restruant..O.o; and since I can't stand and eat with my coordination I just sat outside, it was covered.

So..yeh, I ate lunch, outside, in the wind and rain, 41 degrees, with my ipod on Christmas music, and finally reading my copy of Burt Ward's bio. LOL. The looks of people's faces when they saw the cover was hysterical. xD (cos you know the cover isn't exactly G-Rated...o.o;)

You see, I was wondering if anyone knew the exact year and by whom this picture was taken:

On Saturday the 14th at 4AM UTC/GMT we will be upgrading the operating system of our network load balancers to a newer version, one that will allow us to use both CPUs! Nifty, because multiprocessing is nice.

Since we have 2 load balancers, the plan is to upgrade 1 at a time, and there really should be very little impact to our website. Hopefully you won't notice a thing and I'll get to go back to the hotel and watch some wonderful late night infomercials.

We've got a lot of exciting projects coming up for 2010 and we're hoping that we'll be able to deliver them all to you, that you will find it useful/cool/lovely and then you will use the site even more. Behind-the-scenes work like this will give us the capacity to handle the anticipated traffic, so expect a few more maintenance windows especially in the beginning of next year as we've got some neat ideas to improve performance around here! We had the recent 30-45 minute outage yesterday due to one of our logging databases filling up disk space -- not so great design coupled with my human error in handling the initial problem -- and it looks like we're going to finally have some resources to eliminate stuff like that. I can't wait!

As usual, I will be updating status.livejournal.org before and after, just in case you are not able to reach our main website during the work.

I had a good weekend! Got a lot of chores done, went for a good walk/jog (which I should have done again today, but I point the finger of blame at my laptop... I had to run a diagnostics scan on it and so it kept me stuck here, lol), had some friends over for an awesome night of watching A Dirty Shame, going for a late-night cookie run at Kroger, playing a few hours of Beatles Rock Band and then devouring said chocolate chip cookies.

It was, all in all, a great weekend! However, now its over and I have to go to work today. I am dreading it. I am also dreading a meeting I set up with a teacher at IUS because I am no longer interested in following the path he's pushing me toward. I talked to him about my dreams of working in radio or television and he directed me to that Godawful Journalism degree and he wants me to either double major in English (in case I want to write television scripts or news prompts or something, or Advertising if I want to work in the background making ads and whatnot. I want to do neither. I sort of decided on Communications and then working with either Advertising or just a straight Communications degree... I just don't know...

I need to look into other schools and maybe get things in gear before my lease is up at this apartment in five months. Apply to a few schools and try to get in before next semester. Go through this semester, just getting it done, get back into the swing of things, and move on. IUS just can't satisfy my needs anymore...

I have a few new silly, unrelated addictions. Parking Wars is a show on A&E about the PPA (Philidelphia Parking Authority) and follows a few workers in Philly as they ticket people, boot their cars, two their cars, and deal with the paperwork. And for some reason, its fun to watch. It seems a little more real than Operation Repo, which I also used to like. HEY! Everyone has their guilty pleasures... and reality TV shows are mine, lol.

And the other is a little more... graphic... lol. But Lennox introduced me to this show called Queer as Folk, and I'm addicted. I can see myself starting with Episode One and working my way through it like I have Dexter. I am halfway through Season Three of Dexter, btw and halfway through the third book. You don't have to read the books alongside the series because after the first book, the show doesn't follow the plot of the book anyway... and really, it doesn't follow the plot of the first book all that closely. Dexter I can say makes a better tv show than the book. The books are AMAZING, don't get me wrong, but the show adds even MORE to Dexter's story and its great! So I recommend both, but don't search for parallels between the two...

So I'm going to make some breakfast and then dinner to pack for work and get my day started... Peace! I miss you, Lennox and I hope you had a safe flight! <3 Can't believe you've been across the ocean twice in the past month... my head would be spinning in circles.... but I know you'll pull through and things will work out. I'm sending a lot of good karma you're way, bb!
